Summer Cleaning – Helps the Indoor Air Too
No one in my family seems to be a big fan of cleaning, chores, etc. Least of all probably me. This is the case any time of year but particularly in summer. Summer is for backyard BBQ, pool time, hiking, climbing, being lazy and just hanging out. Definitely not cleaning. Unfortunately, like at any other time of year, it can not be neglected. Nothing good comes from not cleaning particularly if you are an allergy sufferer. So, in attempt to figure out how to get it done (and especially in the summer) quickly, I did some searching. I found some pretty good helpful hints. Here is a synopsis of one of the places I found and what they had to say:
Of course you do all the regular vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping down, dusting etc. Those are all a given. But, to save time and make things way more efficient act like a professional. Keep all the supplies all together. Limit the number of cleaners you use. Use good sturdy simple tools. Tackle one space at a time. Finish the job completely before moving on. Even go as far as to schedule when it will be done. These simple things will get you to the pool much more quickly.
For summer pay particular attention to the doors, windows and sliding doors. Spray the tracks of windows and sliding doors with WD-40 and wrap a screwdriver with a rag and remove all the gunk that has collected there over the months. Use a spray bottle and squeegee to clean the windows inside and out and don’t forget to clean those screens.
Also, clean up the BBQ grill and get it ready for the countless cookouts you are sure to have. Take a good look around and see if there are any bug infestations that need to be addressed as well. You wouldn’t want any of those pesky uninvited guests tagging along for your next backyard meal. Be sure to clean and disinfect the patio furniture as well.
Then, understand that summer is slow for things like carpet cleaners, home maintenance folks, etc. It’s a great time to take advantage of that and then all is ready when, dare I say, fall rolls back around.
There are probably plenty more that should be on the list, but this should be more than enough to start you thinking. Remember, if you are allergy sufferer keep those doors and windows shut and the air conditioner running. This should help with those symptoms. And everyone should take this beginning of summer time to check those filters and change them if needed.
