Thinking about cold and flu season today. However, maybe it’s just allergies that have me concerned. Until just recently didn’t really think about the fact that some of the symptoms can be very similar. We need to be sure we are working on treating and, yes, preventing things correctly. Found a great concise little article that helps with just that. Here is the link http://www.ehow.com/about_6563762_fall-winter-allergies.html. Hope you find some useful information as I did.
Looking forward to all that the next few months have in store for us!
As stated last week we are now authorized dealers for Amaircare air filtration products. It’s difficult to put into words just how excited we really are about these products. The quality and efficiency of these products are outstanding. We wanted to put some pictures up and a little more explanation as to just how much these products could help you.
Automobile and room/home sized units.
Below you will find an in depth description of just how good these units actually are:
“Although every manufacturer has certain features or characteristics that distinguish their products from the competitors, there are certain fundamentals that need to be considered when purchasing a HEPA filter.
1. Efficiency: Although all HEPA filter products on the market claim to meet the HEPA standard of efficiency (99.97% @ .3 microns) very few actually do. As a matter of fact we are currently only aware of one other residential brand other than Amaircare that delivers true HEPA results. How can this be true? Quite simply most products on the market contain a rated HEPA filter in them, but they fail to provide a proper seal between the filter and the cabinet. This lack of a proper seal allows tens of thousands of particles to go around the filter instead of through it. Some HEPA brands can’t even reach the 90% efficient level.
Amaircare tests every single unit that comes off of our assembly line with a .3 micron particle counter to ensure we meet the true HEPA standard. If a unit fails to meet the standard it is rejected and not shipped. Recently Amaircare has introduced our Perfect Seal standard which is your assurance that Amaircare delivers true HEPA results every time, all the time. 2. Air Delivery. Simply stated most manufacturers lie about the amount of air their units can deliver…..And some of them tell whoppers! As a matter of fact many manufacturers overstate the amount of air they can move by 100%! How? It’s quite easy, they just measure their units without the filters installed! So the air flow rating you get is actually the motor specification without any resistance. Sneaky eh! Did you ever notice that some units are quieter than others even though they state the same air-flow? Well the quieter ones are usually delivering much less air volume than they claim.
Amaircare delivers the air volume. When we state our air volumes, it’s with all of the standard filters installed in the unit. We’re not trying to trick or deceive anyone.
3. Carbon filters: Carbon is a very effective way of removing odors and gasses from the air. Most manufacturers offer some amount of carbon as standard equipment with their HEPA filters. Some use a little and some use a lot. When you are considering carbon its helpful if you can imagine it working similar to the way a sponge works with water. A large sponge can absorb more water quicker than a small sponge, and when it gets super saturated it releases some of the water it has absorbed. With that in mind, most ‘carbon blankets’ that are used in the industry have a service life of a few months, while larger ‘carbon canisters’ can last up to a year. Beware of manufacturers that claim their carbon canisters will last as long as their HEPA filter (several years). These claims are simply not true, and after their life span ends, they begin to act as an impediment to the HEPA filter, and worse they can potentially release chemicals back into the air.
Amaircare uses carbon blankets as standard equipment on all of our units, and gives the customer the option to upgrade their unit with a VOC canister. Because carbon canisters have a service life of about a year (on average) we believe this is the most effective and honest way to deal with this issue. Amaircare values it’s reputation and wants to preserve our status as not only a leading manufacturer, but also as a resource for the most expert HEPA and IAQ knowledge in the industry. We feel making false claims about carbon filter life will only serve to damage our reputation.
4. Unit off gassing: Have you ever noticed that most of the lower quality air cleaners on the market are usually made from mould injected plastics? Making units out of plastic is certainly a cost effective way to produce air cleaners, but it does have some potential draw backs. Plastic is often a source of V.O.C.’s (volatile organic compounds), and considering that V.O.C.’s (odors and gasses) are something you want to remove with your air cleaner it seems odd to make a unit from plastic.
Another potential source for VOC’s are the glues and adhesives used in the manufacturing of the actual HEPA filter. Since most manufacturers buy their filters from a third party, it is difficult for them to know what is actually in their filters. Finally another potential source for VOC’s are the motors and fans that are used in HEPA filters. Often these motors and fans are covered in a fine film of oil to protect them in the warehouse shipping process….And additionally Sometimes the motor bearings are actually over packed with grease which can fly off of the unit when it begins spinning.
Amaircare makes our products from cold rolled steel, and uses a baked on powder coat finish to help eliminate any potential VOC emissions from our cabinets. Amaircare manufactures our own HEPA filters in house and uses only Food Grade Plastique instead of plastic in the manufacturing process. This process is designed to reduce VOC in our filters. Also Amaircare carefully examines every motor that gets installed in our units to ensure there isn’t unnecessary lubricants on the motor, or the fan.
Of course there are many other quality checks that Amaircare uses to ensure our units are the best on the market. Let us talk to you about them today.”
While we are aware this is a considerable amount of information, we are sure it is extremely valuable. We are currently working on providing you with the capability of purchasing right from our website. Until that is available please feel free to contact us by phone 615-244-1785 or email mrb@mrbairduct.com with any and all questions you might have.
We are so excited to announce that we are now authorized dealers for Amaircare. What is Amaircare you ask? Very good question! Amaircare is the home of qualilty HEPA air filtration systems. Their only business is “quality air.” When they say they build HEPA filters, they mean that each and every HEPA filter meets true HEPA standards. That is absolutely an amazing fact.
Very soon, our website will include home and automobile air filtration systems and the ability to purchase them right from the site. We have never come across better air filtration systems than these and believe that they will definitely and incomparably improve your indoor air quality.
If your are interested in learning more immediately, visit amaircare.com. As always, we are always looking for ways to improve your air quality.
Just surfing the web a little today and came across a very interesting article. Wanted to share with everyone today mostly because it is so very relevant to Tennesseans. Here is the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49353223/ns/local_news-chattanooga_tn/#.UHWisI58vIo Honestly, I think it is worth the time it takes to read through it. Sometimes things happen in our laws that have “unintended consequences” and this seems to be one of them to me.
We are in the process of beginning to offer some home air purification systems that will hopefully help some of you who suffer from these allergies and asthma. The medicines may not continue to be readily accessible but there are always options. So be looking for updates on how and when we might be able to help you out.
I never really thought about cleaning as a stress reliever. In fact, I (and many others I know) hate and dread it. I totally believed that it was probably the case for most people. Then I came across an article that made me question my thoughts on the matter. So, I’ve decided to share it and see what your take might be on the whole situation. Here is the link: http://stress.about.com/od/tensiontamers/a/cleaning.htm. Once you’ve browsed/read the article let me know if it made you question your thoughts/attitudes on cleaning.
I’m sure with Fall already here and the Holiday season fast approaching there will be lots of cleaning to be done. Perhaps now it may even be a stress reliever instead of a stress inducer.
Of course we have always known and touted the benefits of cleaning your heating and cooling systems including the air ducts. But, now I have come across research that suggests not only is it a good idea, it can also save you 11% or more in your energy costs.
Apparently as much as 30% of energy used in an average home or commercial building is attributed to ventilation, heating and cooling. I had no idea it was that much. In today’s economy saving even 11% of that cost seems like a pretty good idea.
So how does duct work become so dirty that it costs us more money. Simply using our systems on a day in day out basis is what causes them to become dirty. Dirt, dust, animal dander and other things filter through our systems everyday. Naturally we know that changing the filters regularly does help but it cannot ultimately keep up over time. Strangely enough even a brand new system from a brand new home could have already been contaminated by things just because of the construction.
All that to say this. We’ve always known cleaning the system including the air ducts is a great idea. Now there is even research to back it up.
If you are anything like me you love the beginning of Fall….and hate Fall allergies! Sometimes they seem even worse than Spring allergies. Some folks even negate their existence. Seriously, they are real.
I’ve been doing a little research because it doesn’t seem, to me, like we should suffer in Spring and Fall. However, we do. It seems Ragweed is a huge culprit. Of course the usual suspects are there as well. Dust, dust mites, mold the list goes on. I’ve located two really good articles and want to pass them along to you just in case you suffer as I do. They are as follows: http://www.webmd.com/allergies/guide/fall-allergy-relief and http://www.fitsugar.com/Ragweed-Causes-Fall-Allergies-18997515. Both of these gave some great reasons for our suffering, as well as, some tips to alleviate it. Hope it provides some good information for you and that you can enjoy this fabulous time of year.
In this present economy we are all doing whatever we can to make ends meet. Many of us are making repairs to older cars instead of purchasing new. Some of us have even decided to remodel our homes rather than trying to sell and purchase a new home, especially with the holidays fast approaching.
If you are one of the many who have decided to remodel, good for you! As you probably already know, the whole process can make quite a mess. Sheet rock duust, wood shavings, sawdust and just general mess and chaos are already a part of your lives. But the good news is that it will all be worth it when you finally unveil the finished product. The headaches of the process will be just a distnt memory.
After it is finished and you think you have cleaned up the last bit of evidence of the mess of a remodel, you might want to consider having your air ducts cleaned as well. Doing so will remove all of the construction dust and debris that most likely collected there during the process. Having the ducts professionally and thoroughly cleaned will keep all the the dust and other debris from coming back into your newly remodeled living space.
Just let us know when your project is finished and we will be happy to serve you!
You’ve probably always known/assumed there were the typical culprits in your air ducts. You know, dust, allergens, dust mites, general dirt and grime and the like. But I’m going to show you a picture that might just surprise you. Recently we’ve done a couple of jobs where we found “a little” more than the usual suspects. Check this out: Kind of hard to believe isn’t it. It’s really not even the worst we’ve seen. Funny thing with this one is that the owner told us she had just had the ducts cleaned. I’m sure she had. The problem is with the way they were cleaned. The branch lines were most likely cleaned with a some form of brush cleaner which is ok. However, it’s much better to go all the way to the trunk lines which is what we do. And, where we found the above. Good thing they called us. We do the most thorough cleaning possible all the way to the trunk lines every time. Hope this has given you some “food for thought”.
It’s still pretty warm out. But, with the passing of Labor Day my mind turns towards Fall. I love Fall! The colors, the coolness of the morning air. Thoughts of pumpkins, and pies and all that comes with it. To me it’s the prelude to the holidays which I also love.
But, with that also comes thoughts of preparing the house for all that is coming. Sometimes weatherizing is necessary. You know, weatherstripping, caulking, perhaps even adding extra insulation. We all want to be comfortable and save money too! From everything that I have been reading lately all of that is necessary to achieve those goals. My thought to go along with that is that it is great to keep the cold out and the costs down. However, the air I want circulating in my house through the Fall and Winter needs to be as clean as possible.
To achieve the goal of clean indoor air there are lots of things to be considered. Everything from vacuuming consistently with a good filtering vacuum to using an air purifier, to having the heating system maintained well, to making sure you change your air filters every month. So many things to be considered including having the ducts cleaned every 5 to 7 years. You’d be surprised by the things that can collect in air ducts over time. If you are curious check out the photos on our website and see just what is sometimes found there. mrbairduct.com
Anyway, just some food for thought for the upcoming season.
