Does Indoor Air Quality Affect Academic Performance?
Honestly, that is a question I never considered. However, the IAQA (Indoor Air Quality Association) and Tulsa University obviously have.
” IAQA is co-funding research by University of Tulsa to study the correlation between indoor air quality and student performance. The two year study titled Indoor Air Quality and Academic Performance in Public Schools will be using physical measurement of IAQ parameters, test scores, absenteeism as well as economical and social factors to determine if indoor air quality impacts student performance. By revealing the adverse effects of school environments on student performance, schools and governmental agencies may be better motivated to strive to achieve IAQ improvements for healthier school environments.”
I will be very interested in the results of this study. I will be keeping up with process and let you know as the results come in. It also has made me think that if this is important enough to conduct a two year study perhaps it is important enough for me to make some changes around my own home. Below are five ways to improve your indoor air quality I found on WebMd:
1. Keep floors fresh
2. Keep a healthy level of humidity
3. Make your home a no-smoking zone
4. Test for radon
5. Smell good naturally
Great places to start.
