Clean Indoor Air? Ventilate, Ventilate, Ventilate
Its spring! Finally! I just love throwing open the the doors and windows. It always makes my home seem well…just better. Until recently, while I was doing some research, I didn’t realize I was actually doing way more than just making it seem better. I was actually improving my indoor breathing atmosphere. Score one more for me ; ) Seriously, ventilation is key in improving the quality of our indoor air.
Ventilation is more than just throwing open doors and and windows at the first sign of beautiful weather. Proper ventilation can help dehumidify and lower the amount of harmful gases caused by gas stoves and fireplaces or cleaning products, craft supplies, or even paints.
The two biggest culprits for humidity are most likely your kitchen and bath. To help control humidity levels in both try these tips:
1. Install and run exhaust fans. For the bath run them for a bit even afteryou are finished showering to remove more moisture. Also leave shower door open so that it can dry out and avoid any mold/mildew growth.
2. Make sure fans exhaust air outdoors and not to another part of your home.
3. Remove all mold damage and fix all leaks.
Culprits for harmful gases can come from many places. Kitchens where gas stoves are used are a big source, as well as, gas fireplaces and/orwood burning stov
es/fireplaces. In the kitchen it is best to use fans and possibly to open a window while cooking. For the fireplaces its best to keep them well maintained and be aware of any possible leaks.
Of course, we already know to properly maintain our HVAC units and always replace dirty filters which can wreak havoc on good ventilation. If we can help further by cleaning your air ducts or providing air purification call or visit our site today. Here’s to breathing cleaner indoor air!
