Our Parents, Grandparents and Indoor Air Qualitly
We’ve thought about our kids, our homes, even our kids’ schools and the quality of the air. I am reminded that I have left out an ever increasing and very important group, our parents and/or grandparents. I’ve left out those who have invested so much in us and our world and who we should be careful to look out for now. This includes taking care of the air they breathe.
Most everyone has heard the the senior population is growing by leaps and bounds, which, in my opinion, is a great thing. What we need to remember is that they spend a great deal of time indoors and so their indoor air quality is of great importance. Many seniors already have to deal with with various diseases and decreased or compromised immune systems. Let’s be careful not to let the quality of their indoor breathing air add to their issues.
I recently read that pollutants in indoor air can actually adversely affect the cardiac health particularly in the elderly. That’s not something I would like for may parents to have to suffer even further with. So, what can we do? Well, if they live on their own, remind them to change their air filters regularly. Perhaps when you change yours make a phone call to remind them. Maybe suggesting a highly rated HEPA air filtration system would be appropriate. If they happen to be living in a senior care facility, an inquiry into how the facility handles their indoor air quality would be appropriate.
At any rate, we do not want to leave them out of the grand scheme of bettering indoor air quality for all of us. Hope this has given you something to think about! Give us a call if we can help you help them!
